Beach Feast with Karan Gokani

We're kicking off our series of Beach Feasts on the beautiful Baby Bay in New Polzeath with a South Indian inspired banquet with special Guest Chef Karan Gokani.

Karan grew up in Mumbai and moved to England in 2005 to study law at the University of Cambridge. In 2012 he left his legal career at a Magic Circle city law firm to pursue a career in hospitality. After three years traveling across India and Sri Lanka to immerse himself in the food and culture of the countries he co-founded the legendary Hoppers in Soho.

The first Hoppers was inspired by toddy-shops, home cooking and roadside stalls of Sri Lanka and South India, and served its namesake Hoppers alongside Dosas, Kothu, Short Eats, Rice and Roasts. The acclaim soon followed with reviews from London Evening’s Standard’s Fay Maschler and the late Sunday Times critic A.A. Gill who applauded Hoppers for its “seductive, comehither menu” and “spectacular, impressive, authentic, confident and swaggering kitchen”. The restaurant went on to secure its Michelin Bib Gourmand in its first year. Since then Karan has gone on to launch a further two Hoppers restaurants and also, in 2022, a critically acclaimed cookbook. Karan is joining us on the beach to deliver a Southern Indian inspired feast using the best of local Cornish ingredients. You will be greeted with a welcome cocktail designed to match a delicious selection of snacks before sitting down to three courses of soul comforting food designed for sharing. Seated down one long table looking out to sea as the sun starts to dip think Oysters and Mussels from the Estuary, the best local veg grown just beside it and incredible meat from the Moor.
